Black Enterprise writer Rentia Burns has put together a great article today on identity theft by family members. And I am in no way biased by the fact that Ms. Burns interviewed me for the article or that I’m quoted several times in the article. (Ok, maybe I’m a little biased.)
The article provides good information on how to deal with the tangled web of family identity theft. There are great tips on what steps to take if one of your family members decides to use your personal information for their own gain. Identity theft is hard enough to handle without the thief being related to you. Having been a victim of identity theft, I known first hand how it feels to find out someone has violated your personal security. I can only imagine how I would have felt if the thief were a family member.
Take a few minutes and read the article. The information could help you prevent this from happening to you, or if it already has, it could help point you in the right direction on how to resolve the problem.
